You should eat/drink protein powders before you start working out, before 30 mins or 1 hour is enough. You can eat/drink protein powders after your workout as well as second time, if you will consume only 1 time in a day, do it before your workout starts.

You may think that it’s expensive, but I think it’s afforable just check what it have in protein powders, and you’ll understand how many energy sources you are paying for, just think like you have to eat 5 or 6 eggs and half kg of beef everyday, it’s expensive and probably you won’t be able to eat but with protein powders you can do it only with mixing this powder to your meals or drinks so it’s worth the money in my opinion.
